Where We Live Blog Circle-July_Wahkon MN Photographer

So I know I don’t actually live in Wahkon, MN- but we spend so much of our summers there that I wanted to capture its small town charm for this blog circle.

Wahkon, originally inhabited by the Ojibwe, is roughly an hour and a half north of the Twin Cities, on the south end of Lake Mille Lacs and has an official population of 206. Its industry is geared mostly towards the summer folks- restaurants, bars, ice cream shops- and, of course, fisherman. One of the most Minnesotan things to do is buy off-sale. What’s off sale? The buying of alcohol from a bar, versus a liquor store. As in, you walk into a bar, buy a 12 pack or a bottle of whiskey and just walk out with it. We keep it classy in Minnesota!
